The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported 481 cases in the ongoing outbreak of measles in the South Plains and Panhandle as of Friday, April 4.
Lubbock County had a total of 33 cases as of Friday. EverythingLubbock.com found out Thursday a local daycare, Tiny Tots, had confirmed several cases of the measles at its facility. That number was not yet disclosed.
One school aged-child, unvaccinated child has passed away in the outbreak since it began in late January.
Health officials continue to emphasize the best way to prevent getting sick is to be immunized with two doses of an MMR vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, measles is highly contagious and can live in the air for up to two hours.
